Muy bueno, excelente.. Es de mucha ayuda, pero tambien estaria bueno que publicaran Boot Disks para otros Sistemas Operativos, no solamente para los de Microsoft.; por ejemplo para Novell Netware, Linux, Mac, etc. Gracias, suerte

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
okay, so this if fine if you have a windows box. I don't so how about providing a .img file as well?
Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
But there is one! It's packed inside the .EXE and it's an .IMA file, same concept as .IMG files really. You can extract the .IMA from the .EXE using software such as WinRAR by right clicking and selecting Extract Here (WinRAR only). It will give an error extracting, but everything still works.
Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
I am working on providing the actual .IMG file as well as a zip for all of these disks. This should hopefully be completed in a few weeks.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
can you please tell me how to download and make a boot disk?what kind of disk do i need?can i use a cd-r disk?
Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
Just click on one of the links, and when the download window pops up, click on SAVE, and save it on your computer. Then, right click on the boot file, goto properties, and select your operating system in the compatibility tab. After that, double click the program to open it. Click OK and it should start making the boot file on your floppy disk. It would also be a good idea to bookmark this page to download a different boot file, should the first one not work on your system when restarting it. My best guess, is the newer your system is, the higher version you'll want to download. So say like your system was a 1997 windows 95 or 98, you'd probably want to download one like Dos5.0. I hope this was of some help for you.
Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
And no, a CD-R probably would not work. If your to try though, might I suggest using a cd-RW, so as to not waste an entire CD on a 218k-919k file.
Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
Is it possible to receive a disk by mail. I am not sure I could download the DOS disk on my newer computer (2000 XP Home) onto a 720K disk. I need the 720K disk to use as a boot disk for my old work computer. I do not know what happened to it in traveling, but it comes on and simply says to insert a system file. Can you help me? I will gladly pay for the shipping.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
Thanks for the site!
No one has a book disk for Windows Vista.
Do you think you will make one?
Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
Probably not.
I'm not sure how useful a bootable diskette would be for Windows Vista - or if it's even possible to create one. If you need a bootable CD for Vista, you can simply use the CD/DVD that you purchased.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
Those of us who went with an ASUS G2S with Vista Home Premium pre-installed do not have the luxury of having the ability to go to a command prompt with the included restore DVD. It boots like a normal Vista DVD would boot but doesn't have an option to do anything other than wipe the drive and reinstall factory settings. Which sucks because I really need to boot into a command shell and run bcdedit as the vista partition will not boot but the partition and all it's data is still visible from linux.
Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
There are drivers avaliable for MS-DOS that allow MS-DOS to access NTFS partitions on hard drives. I looked at some of these and didn't really find them useful. Just type "MS-DOS NTFS Driver" into Google and quite a few should come up. I haven't tried any of these myself, though (at least not yet). Then, get MS-DOS onto a floppy disk (or, if you don't have a floppy drive, try putting it on a cd) and do whatever to fix Vista.
Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
Windows Vista has no recovery console, no MININT and simply no other recovery functionality, except booting from the original DVD and starting the recovery mechanism from there. If this is your case, it really looks like you're stuck with that... I suggest you contact ASUS for a solution.
There is simply no other way to create boot disks other then using the original DVD.
Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
I guess that this might solve your problem: http://www.svrops.com/svrops/articles/winvistare.htm
These are detailed instructions to add the Windows Vista Recovery Environment to the F8 Startup options. Tried it myself and works like a charm.
Note that these instructions are not for the faint-hearted or inexperienced but this is the supported way of getting this to work.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
why are they all exe.'s ? I only want an image to use in virtual pc - I don't have a floppy disk!
Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
The .exe files are self-extracting archives, which automatically write the boot disk to a floppy. I originally created these disks as a WinImage .exe to make it as easy as possible to create a boot disk. But VMWare/VirtualPC is huge now, so most people are using these disks for virtualization projects. This is one reason why I'm working on providing the .img file for each disk - but I've gotten sidetracked with work stuff!
In the meantime, you can download an ISO image of DOS, and attach that to your virtual machines as a Virtual CD-ROM disc.

I'm trying boot a VM boot with the isos os DOS, but I receive a message error
No bootable CD, floppy or hard disk was detected.
To install an operating system, insert a bootable CD or floppy and restart the virtual machine by clicking the Reset button.

I know this is completely noobish- but I'm totally confused about writing and running the boot disks from CDs, given that the .exe files all request a floppy disk. Any pointers?

Re: Uninstall Vista and Install Windows XP which never had XP
How do I take my lap top that came with Vista and uninstall it. I then want to install Windows XP after that. Anyone who can help me with this would be of much help. Lap Top is an ACER if it matters.
Re: Uninstall Vista and Install Windows XP which never had XP
First of all, laptops that come with bundled software already installed CAN NOT use a basic XP or Vista disc for a PC on your laptop.
You should check with whoever issued you the laptop (or instruction manual or box)if there is a WinXP disc as well as a Vista disc included
If so, try the WinXP disc. If not, you might need to ask Acer if they have a WinXP disc for your laptop model.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
I have used your Dos6.22.exe download to create a CD Boot disk to allow me to use with Symantec Ghost.
However we have some new Dell Optiplex 745 PCs with Sata CD/DVD Drives ( TSSTCorp DVD-ROM TS-H353b-DEM). I have found that the Dell Sata CD/DVD drivers use
the following drivers
redbook.sys
cdrom.sys
imapi.sys
storprop.dll
How can I edit the bootable disk to allow it to boot a Sata CD/DVD drive ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
i download your file double click on the image it writes and expands to the disk i put the disk in my laptop that has no operating system on it at all set the bios to boot from my floppy drive it boots up starts to read the disk but then nothing happens dos does not start and it just continues to boot from the hard drive which has nothing on it. i have no cd rom so icannot use cd rom all i have is the floppy drive maybe the floppy i have is not working the laptop is hp omnibook i just want to be able to load dos on it from there i will be able to put a operating system on it or is there a operating system out there that will fit on floppy disks but not too many and will it boot without dos being on the computer . sorry about the compllexity of the question but am going nuts.
Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
Several suggestions...
Main suggestion: wait longer. Make sure all, if any, BIOS settings are configured to boot the disk properly.
1) Try reformatting the floppy and running the .exe again. There's a possibillity of a write error.
2) Try it with another floppy disk. If it works, the original floppy might have gone bad (bad sectors, etc.)
3) Try a different image file (a different DOS version); I'm guessing by the lack of a CD-ROM drive that your laptop is pretty old, and I know that newer DOS versions don't like older computers. Nor do newer computers like older DOS versions. Aim for something in the middle (the DOS 5.0 disk has always worked for me, and has most of the programs that the newer DOS's have).
Hopefully you manage to get it to work!

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
when you boot, are you given a chance to run the BIOS of the laptop?
If so, press the indicated key, enter the password if it is enabled and check for something like "IDE Sequence" (normally under General Settings) and make sure "A:" or "B:", depending on what drive it is, or "FDD" or "Floppy Disk Drive" is first.
If you aren't given that option, or none of the above names or drive letters are shown, there might be a seperate option for the floppy drive.
Then try the floppy again. If it works, horray, you have now officially got MS-DOS running from your floppy (FDD) drive.

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
My boyfriend just bought a used Optiplex 745 from someone a retired co-worker. The problem was he didn't remove any of the passwords. I had to find the user manual to change the administrator password. The next problem I faced is now after I solved that problem I can't access the windows xp professional without the proper user name and passcode. So, instead of stressing any further, I decided to wipe out my hard drive with a program called DBAN. That worked but it is showing on my screen " noMS Dos floppy disk detected to save log file to. So that's why I'm on this site now. I hope it works. The funny thing is after making a few adjusts to my own system, to get into it, I think I would really like to pursue this as a serious career. Something like computer repair :P Input is helpful. I truly hope this works.
Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
Congratulations on your detective work lol... if you are serious about your comment below...
>I think I would really like to pursue this as a serious career. >Something like computer repair :P Input is helpful.
I would suggest using Fdisk or another safer program to format your drive with. I would also suggest using a free program called Cpuz to find out your hardware then go to the website for your hardrive such as www.maxtor.com and download the free utilities for the hard drive you are working on. You will be surprised at the free stuff you can get.
BTW HUGE Kudos to this site for providing archived DOS and Windows boot disks! Too bad you can't please everyone. Your layout is awesome don't worry about wannabe web designers trying to slam your site then offering to charge you for it. There is always room for improvement. I have yet to read a post offering to help you in any way? Maybe I missed *it*? Such as someone willing to help copy your boot disks to zip or .img format? I would if I had the time or talent but in the meantime have to just thank you for yours. I realize your not a Windows instructor, Computer Repair Tech, etc. and here for free advice. Sometimes you just have to do your homework like use GOOGLE? LOL Geez. I need a cup of coffee after reading these posts. Muy Bueno! Great job! I remember learning on Grid Dos then PC Dos then MS Dos 2.0 on up hehe

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
If your filesystem on the drive where Windows XP is installed is NTFS then it is not possible. You would need a seperate partition that is FAT file system.
And even then, I think you need to install DOS first on a different parition, then install Windows XP.
good luck :)

Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
Hi,
I think I have a problem.
My old Toshiba T3100/20 "laptop" has only double density drive but your DOS 3.3 automatic boot disk seems to only support High Density disks. At least I get "Disk error on track 0, head 0. Sector not found" error. I think the DD floppy works fine and DOS 3.3 should fit. Thanks but it seems as I have to continue my search.

What Do I PUT????
Re: MS-DOS Boot Disk Download
You need to switch to the drive of your CD ROM to install Windows. Most likely this would be D:, therefore you would need to type in:
d:
from there i believe you can type in:
setup
and the windows 95 installation will begin.
Alternatively you could have jus typed in:
d:\setup.exe
:)
